The students that may not understand, understand when they are shown physically how to measure using a manipulative. the unifex cubes are wonderful!

We do so many different math activities with them; patterning, composing shapes, decomposing shapes, and just seeing what images we can make with different combinations of shapes.

I agree that you can have too much in a classroom. It gives too many distractions. Children with ADD especially need as few distractions as possible whether physical or visual.
A lot of classrooms have too much going on.

I think all teacher collect everything because one day we might needed for a fun activity in the classroom. I like to way you organized the manipulatives on the shelf in plastic containers, so easy for children to find what they are looking for and it is a part of the math too … sorting.

I also love that I can usually just walk around my room, find something, and implement it into some sort of math activity. Even if it is something as simple as hot wheel cars.

How awesome would it be if parents had these stations, of various types, at home to reinforce the learning process?

It is a good idea to have a variety of manipulatives for children to choose from, but to a certain extent. It can be overwhelming if there are too many objects in the classroom.
