Fun to do in the classroom an then send recipe at home so the children can cook with others at home.

It is always fun to find new ways to not only involve the children’s interests with fun things/activities like this but to also make it educational as well!

I quickly was drawn to this blog and want to find this book and try the recipe with my kiddos. I have used cooking with all of my day care children. I find that it is a fun way to learn number sense in measurements and also being careful to follow directions. We go to the orchard and pick apples to look at the parts of the fruits and observe the patterns.

Baking is a great way to count the number of ingredients, then count how many of those ingredients are needed in the recipe. For example, we need, flour, baking soda, water, eggs, salt, oil (6 things) but how many eggs do we need? we would need 3 for the recipe. We also use numbers on a clock to set the timer.

I was reminded of more activities that encourages children’s number sense. Completing meaningful tasks, such as chores definitely allows children to playout and correct their sense of numbers.
