I like that this activity was spontaneous while still teaching important skills. I can definitely see my older kiddos really get into this and teaching the younger ones.

I had not thought about using sidewalk chalk and every day objects to show subtilizing, counting on and grouping. I will start using this in my outdoor play time.

I use items around the classroom as measuring units. We sometimes measure with blocks or maybe a piece of train track.

At our daycare, depending on the weather, we will measure rain (in different size containers). In summer there is an abundant of things to count. In wintertime we’ll make snowballs & measure the different sizes. The kids really get into it.

I liked the spontaneity of the activity. It reminds me to look at the simple things and engage.
