Are Our Children Ready To Join The Workforce?

by Early Math Counts

Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it?  However, this is how many educators are thinking about readiness; looking at workforce needs and moving backward playing the blame game.  If college wasn’t able to prepare their students for the workforce, then it must be the fault of the high schools.  If high school couldn’t do their job, it is because grade school didn’t do theirs. Thus, the only people left to blame is the early childhood community.

That is why various stakeholders have moved away from the premise that early childhood education be focused on social and emotional development and move toward skill-building and school readiness.

This blog post describes why this plan is not working out so well and what we can do about it.
