I too, love blocks

by Early Math Counts

This article from looks at some new research that examines the way young children play, screen time, and simple blocks.  Well, you all know that I LOVE blocks.  I even wrote about my new favorite blocs last week.

In short, the research says that children who play with simple toys, especially when they stimulate adult/child interaction raises those children’s vocabulary statistically higher than those who don’t have the same interactive materials.  Much of the research focuses on screen time, and the way that reduces children’s critical thinking and processing skills.

I like that they used simple blocks as their toy of choice, as I too, love blocks. As you read through the article, see how the author mentions all of the math skills involved in block play.  Although the research is about vocabulary, you can’t ignore the math implications.
